Qantas continues to improve its punctuality, with recent government data revealing that over 80% of its flights departed on time in May. This marks the airline’s best performance in 17 months, nearing long-term averages.

Specifically, 80.6% of Qantas flights departed on time in May, showing an increase from 79.9% in April and 78.2% in March. Despite this improvement, the airline’s cancellation rate slightly rose to 2.6% from April’s 2.3%.

Qantas’ new domestic group boarding process is being progressively rolled out nationwide and is now operational in Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne. This more efficient and streamlined approach has been well-received by customers and is set to launch at Sydney Airport on Tuesday.

Jetstar, Qantas’ low-cost subsidiary, reported the lowest cancellation rate among major airlines at 1.1%, its best result in almost three and a half years. Jetstar also continued its streak of improved punctuality, with 79.1% of flights arriving on time.

Comments from Qantas Group Chief Customer & Digital Officer Catriona Larritt:

“We’ve been working hard to ensure our customers get to their destinations as quickly as possible and we are now closing in on the levels we had before the pandemic.

“Our new group boarding process has been well received by travellers at Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth airports and this week it’s being rolled out in Sydney.”
