The Superyacht Eco Association’s pioneering Sea Index CO2 tool, along with its independently verified certification for superyachts over 25 meters, has earned the prestigious Capenergies label, highlighting its innovative strides in mitigating the environmental impact and carbon footprint of large yachts.
Formulated within the framework of the Yacht Club de Monaco’s ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ initiative, the Sea Index marks a significant leap forward in maritime sustainability. It stands as the inaugural tool to gauge energy intensity and juxtapose CO2 emissions among superyachts exceeding 25 meters, drawing upon data provided by manufacturers and specialized onboard equipment. This initiative underscores Monaco’s dedication to spearheading the yachting industry towards a greener horizon.
The Capenergies cluster plays a pivotal role in fostering novel projects and fostering their growth to expedite the Energy Transition. Comprising a vibrant network of nearly 520 members encompassing major industrial players, enterprises (including a majority of SMEs and startups), research institutions, training centers, local authorities, and investors, the cluster specializes in energy and its various applications. With ties to over 300 partners across France and Europe, Capenergies serves as a nexus for innovation and collaboration in the energy sector.
Bestowed by a select 12-member committee, the Capenergies label underscores the innovative essence of the Sea Index, the strides achieved by the Superyacht Eco Association since the tool’s inception in 2020, and its potential for substantial economic and environmental benefits. By attaining the Capenergies label, the Sea Index CO2 tool is not only lauded for its technological ingenuity but also heralded for its capacity to reshape the industry’s approach to environmental stewardship.
“We are honored to receive the Capenergies label, which validates our efforts to lead yachting towards a more sustainable future,” said Bernard d’Alessandri, Vice President for the Superyacht Eco Association and General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco. “This recognition inspires us to continue developing neutral tools that help yachting stakeholders make informed decisions when buying, selling and chartering yachts.”
