MADEIRA – On September 27th, Madeira will host a significant international conference, the CAI Conference 2024, bringing together key figures from the cruise industry. Organized by the Administration of the Ports of Madeira (APRAM, SA), this event will mark the 30th anniversary of the inaugural Cruise Atlantic Islands (CAI) meeting. The conference aims to explore the future prospects of the Atlantic region amidst the growing competition in the global cruise market.

CAI initially united the ports of Madeira and the Canary Islands, expanded to include Cape Verde in 2006, and added the Azores last year. Presently, it caters to a market of 3.3 million cruise travelers, positioning itself as a unique itinerary option in the competitive global cruise sector. This distinction is built on the distinctive and complementary characteristics of the Macaronesian Atlantic islands. As a brand, CAI has been actively involved in major industry events such as Seatrade, MedCruise, the International Cruise Summit, and Cruise Week Europe.

The CAI Conference 2024 is set to unite representatives from CAI Madeira, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and the Azores, along with a diverse range of attendees. Participants will include guests, operators, industry professionals, government officials, tourism and entertainment companies, as well as both national and international media.

This event promises to offer a comprehensive platform for discussing developments and future strategies within the cruise industry. The conference will feature insights from various sector experts and stakeholders, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Nikos Mertzanidis, Vice President of CLIA Europe, will join as a co-host for the conference, bringing valuable industry perspective and expertise to the proceedings.

It’s important to note that Madeira was honored as the Best Cruise Destination in Europe at the World Cruise Awards for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023.
