Koleje Mazowieckie, a leading regional passenger transport operator in Poland, is continuously enhancing its fleet to improve the safety and comfort of its rail services in the Masovian region. Last week, the company formalized a framework agreement with Stadler for the production of 50 FLIRT trains, including the first two executive orders for 25 trains. This week, Stadler secured an additional contract to supply 15 more FLIRT units, with an option for 10 additional units, along with 18 years of maintenance services. This project receives financial support from European Union funds.
The contract, signed in Warsaw by representatives from both companies—Robert Stępień and Czesław Sulima from Koleje Mazowieckie, and Philipp Brunner and Arkadiusz Świerkot from Stadler—will facilitate the supply of 25 state-of-the-art FLIRT trains, alongside a long-term maintenance plan. The trains from the initial 15-unit order will operate throughout the Masovian Voivodeship on the thoroughly modernized TEN-T network. This expansion is poised to enhance service frequency on several routes, including Warsaw to Płock, Warsaw to Otwock, and Warsaw to Sochaczew.
Manufactured at Stadler’s facility in Siedlce, Poland, these trains reflect a longstanding and prosperous partnership between the two entities. Philipp Brunner, a Stadler Executive Board member, highlighted the collaborative effort, projecting the delivery of up to 75 FLIRT trains over the upcoming years if both contracts proceed as planned.
The newly acquired FLIRT trains boast modern amenities such as air conditioning, visual and auditory information systems, and a top speed of 160 km/h. Each train has a capacity of 275 seats and offers ample space for bicycles and large luggage, in addition to wireless internet, internal and external display screens, and emergency communication devices. Accessibility features include wheelchair and pushchair platforms and fastenings, adapted toilets, and an induction loop system for hearing aids, ensuring convenience and safety for all passengers.
